Monday ~~ October 27, 2014 ~~ Do you know the lessons that can be learned from removing stitches from a Quilt?

It may be hard to believe but there are life lessons that can be learned from removing stitches from a Quilt but, only if you pay attention.

What lessons you might ask, well I can only tell you the lessons I learned or was reminded of while removing 100,000 (yes one hundred thousand) stitches from a Quilt I am working on right now.

The first lesson and it is a big one is patience.
Without patience you cannot remove every single stitch without damaging the top fabric, the batting and the bottom fabric. Three layers of material that cannot be damaged as you are removing stitches. Unless of course you want to start the quilt over from the beginning because if you damage those layers you will have to replace some part of the material. It doesn't matter which part has to be replaced, the point is it will have to be replaced.

The next lesson, understanding. I know it may sound silly as you read this but understanding is also an important lesson learned. Understanding that if you do not have patience you will not succeed in completing the task at hand. The task at hand being completing the removal of every single stitch from the fabric that you put into the fabric. Understanding that you are not perfect and there are times when you just have to remove something and replace it. It may not be perfect when replaced but you understand that it had to be done.

The next lesson, humility. The acknowledgement that you made a mistake and you have to fix it.
There is no blame and no one to blame. There is no guilt for making the mistake, it is just a mistake and you yourself have to take the time to fix the mistake to make things right.

The next lesson, perseverance. If you do not have the patience, understanding and humility to persevere you will not achieve the end result that you seek in removing every single stitch. No matter how many hours it takes you the task of removing each stitch must be completed and you must persevere and achieve the end result.

The next lesson, pride. Yes, pride being proud of the fact that you had the patience to complete the task at hand, you understand that patience helped you achieve your goal, the humility to acknowledge that you made a mistake and had to fix it and the perseverance to complete the task.

If you pay attention to all of these life lessons they can and will change your life a wee bit and make you more aware of other things in your life that you can apply these lessons to.

So a few thoughts to ponder if you choose:

Do you need to learn or be reminded of any life lessons?
Are there tasks that you don't like to do that need to be done anyway?
Have you done them?
Do you prefer post earrings or long earring?
Are you content when you are alone?
Do you prefer smores or plain marshmallows toasted over the campfire?
Do you choose water with lemon or without?

As usual I wish you restful sleep and peaceful dreams when it comes time for you to wander your timbers of slumber.
