Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken.
Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.![Stick Out Tongue](https://pics3.city-data.com/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

Kool 98: The Last Of Texas' Great Oldies Stations
Posted 05-05-2015 at 03:54 AM by case44
It was probably the last one standing, since many markets have seen transformations of radio stations that once played '60s music into '70s-'80s formats. Until about three years ago, a station in Lubbock, however, still played the oldies the way they were meant to be played.
KKCL-FM (98.1), previously known as Kool 98, used to have an extensive playlist of tunes, the big hits and the songs you never hear anywhere. In fact, there were songs I'd never, ever heard before until I heard Kool 98 play them. All 1960s and a few from the early '70s. Just great stuff. Now, Lubbock has practically joined everyone else in bringing things up to the times, with corporate radio entities dictating what lists to play. As a matter of fact, none of the DJs on that station from a few years ago are there anymore. While music from the '80s and '90s qualifies these days as "oldies", you and I know that that's not the same. Although Lubbock has a new '60s station, Oldies 97.7 (K249DU), it's not the same as its predecessor.
Oh, well. We can still listen if that's your persuasion. Then again, there's always '60s on 6 on Sirius XM.

Anymore, you'd have to settle for XM 6. Radio in general isn't what it used to be. I've tried streamlining that station you mentioned, and it wouldn't stay on for more than a few minutes.
