New Year, New Life

Acts 5:17-21 - Then the high priest and all his associates, who were members of the party of the Sadducees were filled with jealousy. They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail. But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out. “Go, stand in the temple courts,” he said, “and tell the people all about this new life. At daybreak they entered the temple courts, as they had been told, and began to teach the people. - A new year is here and it reminds me of this scripture that speaks of new life. In the scripture some of Christ's apostles had been jailed for preaching the Gospel by the political and religious leaders of their day who didn't like Christ or his message because it was different from what they were teaching. During the night an angel sent by God freed them and told them to tell people about the new life that was available to them. The next morning the leaders found the apostles gone and couldn't figure out what happened to them. It is no secret that in some parts of the world people are prevented from hearing the word of God by unbelieving leaders just like in this scripture, usually because they have different ideas of what people should believe (Psalm 2:1 - Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain?). If people cannot hear God's word they cannot know they are sinful, that Jesus Christ is their ticket to forgiveness and eternal life, or anything else that God wants them to know. Those that deliberately kept others from hearing God's word will be called to account for that action. The apostle Paul wrote in Romans 10:14 - How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? Though it's under assault, we're fortunate in the U.S that Christianity is legal. What About Jesus?
