Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Lending Your Voice To The Airwaves

Posted 02-14-2016 at 11:33 AM by case44

If I weren't doing what I'm currently doing, then I certainly would have been in radio. Yeah, I know, the business is not what it used to be, but there are still people out there who are trying like the dickens to keep the medium on a local level, which it should be.

So, there's this fantasy that I want to be a country deejay, spinning old country tunes and having his own show. Honestly, I wouldn't mind having (former Austin jock) Tom Allen's old gig, where he'd do a midday weekday show spinning today's hits, and then do a Saturday morning show playing the old songs. If KOKE-FM, for example, were hiring, then you'd better believe I'd go for it, but I'd hate to jettison Don Miller out of his element. You know, Don's a dang good traffic reporter, too, and one of the best in Austin, but I digress. Even if I decide not to spin records, there should still be a place for me to lend my voice. So many places and venues out there use the auspices of the voice specialist.

I got to thinking about this: When these voice specialists are all gone, who is going to replace them? Sooner or later, someone out there has to have a talent in voice, someone who can bring something to a presentation. It could be radio, it could be in commercials, it could be public service for museums or welcome center sites, it could be a stadium announcer, it could be the news business, it could be for online services, on and on. It's going to be there, like it or not. The demand is out there for voices. Machines can't do those things. Only people can.

Let me encourage you if I may. Whenever someone likes your voice and tells you that you should be in radio, that's a sure sign that you need to take action and get involved in something - -- anything --- that uses a voice in it. It's out there. And you just might be amazed.
