A very strong argument could be made for Minneapolis having a bigger, more urban, and most importantly more functional downtown than Houston, which is full of surface lots and tends to empty out after business hours.

Houston has more Fortune 500 companies than Chicago. Houston has one the three busiest seaports in north America. Houston's population continues to grow while several hundred thousand people have left Chicago. Houston is more diverse than Chicago yet not nearly as segregated. Houston median family income is as high if not higher than that of Chicago. Houston's theatre district in terms of seats available is ONLY surpassed by that of NYC. Houston has the largest medical/healthcare complex, the Texas Medical Center, in the world.

Those are the metrics to compare to Chicago, Philly or L.A. Oh and Philly, since 1980 has lost over 400,000 residents.
