hunterseat df: Hunter Seat Equitation is a division that is judged on the ability and the style of the rider. The riders can be judged both over fences and on the flat.

Although true, hunters DO eat, at least the skilled ones do, my name derives from the world of horses.

And because the word hunter is in my name, people automatically think I'm a guy. Not even close.

Whenever I meet someone named Hunter I have to bite my tongue to keep from saying "That's my name, too!"

A crooked-tailed cat

I know it seems like I have a lot of animal stories and a lot of God stories but the theory is to write about what ya know! I absolutely love my pets.

Our little Leland kitty has been through it. We got him from a rescue while we lived on Oahu. There were about 400 cats at that rescue and they had Leland at a pet store adoption fair.

Once we got him home we realized he wasn't a well kitty. His whole head was filled with....yuck. He had trouble breathing and when he sneezed just loads of green stuff came out. You know how painful sinus pressure can be? I'd rub his head. He'd let us clean his eyes and nose. He dutifully took his medicine - okay maybe not so dutifully, but we got it down him.

Eventually the yuck went away, thankfully because it took FOREVER.

He was an indoor kitty, aka couch potato, but an excellent lizard hunter. If he snuck outside I could just keep running after him and eventually he'd fall over on the ground panting and I'd walk over and pick him up.

In preparation for the trip to the mainland, I began leash training him. He took to it pretty well, considering he's a cat. I really wasn't interested in "walking" him as much as I wanted to have a handle on him. He did so well on the flight, he put the little whiny dog to shame! I was even able to take him to the dog walk area inside the Seattle airport where he calmly used a bit of kitty litter I laid out for him on a plastic bag.

Our time in Atlanta gave him a chance to get outside more. We lived on a dead end with woods and stream behind the house adjacent to a park. He was in hunting heaven but he mostly tag-teamed with the black dog against spiders. What a great team. Leland would corner and black dog would deal the death blow with his short, blunt nose. I love it. Those were some big spiders!

So our move to New England found Leland in a carrier traveling in the HUGE yellow truck. Somehow I ended up driving that monster, towing my car on a trailer with the cat and the whiny dog. The other half (not cool) had the black dog (he's cool) in the pickup truck. Period. ikr? At one rest stop the dog kicked the cat crate off the truck seat, on to the ground and it busted open. Before anything registered in my head, Leland lept back into the truck, wedged himself under the brake pedal and proved he was not interested in going outside.

He had a litter box on the floorboard but he never used it. I did but that's another story.

Well, we picked out our house for the cat. Surrounded by woods on another dead end street, it's perfect for him. He's become a valiant hunter, leaving mouse parts strewn around the yard. Even plucked one from my spice cabinet once he convinced me he had a good reason to be on the counter.

Right now my son is staying with us. He works as a dog groomer and, I'm sure when he comes home, smells like dogs. He's a fun-loving guy and he's musical. He often breaks into song and recently he made some loud noise that absolutely freaked out the little fuzzy orange kitty! It was like a monster was in the house! No way was he staying around to be eaten! He became leery of the guy who sometimes trims his claws.

But a mean kitty came over and started a fight. The cool black dog finished the fight but Leland was a bit battered, body and pride. The dog groomer scooped Leland up and took him in his room to "chill". Leland appreciated that. And if you need him? That's where he'll be.
