Well I've been watching 'escape to the country' with the beautiful Alistair Appleton, normally I'm always longing to be in the England, but right now I'm truly yearning to be in rural Ireland in an old white stone cottage.Something about being in the landscape of all my favourite legends and myths moves me.I pondered decorating it,moving there with my beloved, cooking Irish stew with freshly baked bread.I feel this need to cook ancestral foods, the sort of food my ancestors ate.But no I don't think I'd ever move to Ireland,I am use to everyday sunshine and all the rest. Its something wonderful to daydream about,I think I will start another novel,a young poet moves to wild Connemara with her fiancé into an old stone cottage and meets some old wise woman who prophesies some ancient legend about her true soulmate,a redheaded boy.I think I will call it The Wild Way.Oh I would love that.Well I'm greatly enjoying my William Morris mug,so much that I now want only beautiful special things I look for on the web in my life, and nothing else.In the words of William Morris "Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful”.You can be so particular on the web if you want a delicate silver swan pendant you can find just the right one.

I've been researching Irish folklore, mostly I want to read love ballads and love stories, but I'm reading 'Visions and beliefs in the west of Ireland' (not great) specifically the chapter on wise women because of my novel ideas and wanting an old wise woman who prophesies in it.There is an Irish saying "An old woman without learning, it is she will be doing charms" it's worth note that is the unlearned that have magical prowess.Reminds me of a quote I read about a shamaness undergoing initiation that she had to undo all her education/reason,to find her intuitive all knowing self.Things feel low voltage at the moment,I completely forgot it's Halloween because we simply don't celebrate it in Australia and really shouldn't,we are entering summer, light and vitality not the dark half of the year.Whether the veil between this world and the otherworld is thin right now here in Australia, as is the belief of samhain/Halloween/etc I don't know, but for me the veil is always thin.I might still honour my ancestors today.

I feel a longing for the mysteries,to fly away to the otherworld.I decided if I ever got to do a dissertation in Celtic Studies it would be on either the Morrigu(an Irish battle/fury goddess)or prophetic poetry. The way we just let words flow in within poetry, receive and imbibe,it's very receptive for me at least, you can see how it can be akin to prophecy.I was thinking of red one moment and I stumbled upon a poem on the ouroboros (one of his symbols),so really I see poetry as a prophetic uttering sometimes.'Celtic tales attribute poetic, or prophetic powers to wild men.In Welsh tradition such powers are given to Myrddi, (a.k.a. Merlin), who at one point becomes mad and goes into a forest where he finds himself able to write prophetic poetry'.I wish I could write poetry again,I tried yesterday and this morning,it felt like the whole of October was about poetry,it was a magical month for me.
I'm also reading about celestial or spirit spouses, they appear in dreams and form a partnership in dreams, the whole idea of some sort of spirit marriage really intrigues me.I also began reading the "The red haired girl from the bog" I'm really enjoying it,it is about a sort of mythic tour through Ireland and that is just the mood that I'm in at the moment. She really tries to find her ancestral home and belonging,it talks alot about the sidhe(the otherworld folk) and powerful Irish female deities too.I think today I will read, learn more about spirit spouses, drink my tea and write poems. I feel a deep need to "give it out" as the Irish say, to release much material in me but cannot seem to find a way too and it burdens me.Oh well in the words of Nina Simone any day now I shall be released.
