Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

Too Bad D/FW Didn't Try This Idea Before

They've never done it before. And they still haven't. Dallas-Fort Worth's media market has never had a local, 24-hour news channel on cable.
Oh, they've once had Texas Cable News, but that was more of a state effort by the company formerly known as Belo. And we've seen Houston with an actual 24/7 local news channel on broadcast television some twenty years ago (Remember KNWS-TV, Channel 51, as it used to be?). Never got to see much of it, but I heard it was pretty good. They got about ten good years out of that. Then that same city had an effort from the old Time Warner Cable (now Spectrum) with News 24 Houston. Nice try. Lasted about two years. And you have Austin with a successful Spectrum outlet that has endured well since 1999 on cable channel 8. That effort is still going.
But D/FW? No cigar. And Spectrum doesn't have any plans for one, either, although I think people in this market can support that. As it is, Dallas-Fort Worth has never been as strong of a market as it should be, given its status and size. News organizations in local areas are expensive, and one can only hope that, once it's on the air, it stays on the air, or else, the fit hits the shan. And after such, it's disheartening when news staffers suddenly find themselves out of jobs in their fields, hoping to find something else within that same market, or else, they'd have to go elsewhere.
Wouldn't it just be nice if, for once, Spectrum can put together News 24 Metroplex? Spectrum News Dallas? Well, I don't see why not. I'd watch.
