Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

Two Zero, Two Zero: New Year, New Decade, New Opportunities
Posted 01-01-2020 at 05:19 AM by case44
Well, I'll start by saying that if there was something you wanted to do last decade, um, ...........
......sorry.
Here it is, at last. Two zero, two zero is finally a reality. A brand-new year, and we're just eager to rip the plastic off of the seats. My body might crave a little potion of youth, as the New Year does nothing to bring that prospect to fruition. But we can all anticipate a new energy and excitement in this time. Some of us will make resolutions which, for many, likely won't be kept. Those of you making adjustments to writing 2 0 on your checks as you write them, well, hopefully, you've gotten your practice in, because today's the real thing.
Lots of radio specials all over the place if you give a listen, especially on Sirius XM. Who will win the Super Bowl in a month? We'll be finding out who this year's sports champions will be in due course. My Houston Texans will face the NFL playoffs. The Astros and Rockets will have contending teams once again. There are the life surprises which we'll face, some pleasant, others heartbreaking. We'll be leaping on February 29, a Saturday, as that extra day is back for another round. Here's a great idea for a practical joke: How about allowing Barbara Walters into your computer to announce these words: "I'm Barbara Walters, and this is 2020." No, not 20/20 from ABC-TV. By now, we know better. If you just let that digest a bit, you might initiate a neat chuckle out of that.
Ah, turning the (calendar) page. Kiss 2019 and last decade goodbye, and then wave hello to two zero, two zero. Time is of the essence if it wasn't previously.
The last of winter, plus spring, summer, fall, and the first snippet of next winter are in the offing for us. Many milestones in all areas of life will be reached, not the least of which is my tenure at work (20 years at the same company). It's also a presidential election year that's sure to be ugly (sadly, anyway), but that's politics for you. There will be less suspense surrounding the presidential and Senate elections and much more around the number of seats Republicans are expected to gain back in the House. Baseball will witness the opening of Arlington's Globe Life Field for the Texas Rangers. Two zero, two zero will bring, I hope, so much of the good stuff to you.
Ol' Case will be back for more blog fun. Hop on if you haven't already! And Happy New Year to all great readers out there.

Lunch is at my abode today. Got some roast beef with mushroom gravy out of the crockpot. Also have black-eyed peas for good luck. Delicious stuff today.
Happy New Year where you are.Posted 01-01-2020 at 12:36 PM by case44
