Blast from the past

My brother and I went to virtual game the other day which is the British equivalent to a less fancy EBgames. It's awesome because they usually trade really old stuff and import games from America.

One day we were there talking with the staff and they happen to mention that they happen to have an old machine out in the back. We asked to see it and wow! I immediately recognized it as a Sinclair ZX spectrum and spectrum +2. The guys there were desperate to give them away and we were more than happy get them, as well as the 100 or so tapes that came with them.

Now what the heck are those things I mentioned? Well they are computers just like the one you use to read messages in City Data but....um....older. Do you remember when CD's first came out many years ago? Are you old enough to remember floppys?
Well thousands of years ago we used tapes and in 1982/1986 these two computers came out to rock our world and help us do our taxes(bear in mind I was born in '89).

Anyways we put the sucker in and I kid you not, it took us 5 minutes to load a tape!! Five minutes is something that would not be tolerated in todays speedy generation, I'm so surprised at the sheer amount of patience that ancient humans had. Did they read stone tablets while they waited for their computers to load? Rolling stones maybe? The wait just felt endless for me and my brother but well worth it in the end and even my cockatiel shacko had some fun with it.
