Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

I-69 Update: RGV Just Getting Bigger

Posted 01-04-2022 at 07:22 PM by case44

Deep South Texas keeps on growing. Road work is continuing at a brisk pace, especially in the McAllen area.

Interstate 69C is getting an expanded connection with an ever-expanding Interstate 2. It's badly needed in the Rio Grande Valley region. Ground was broken a few months ago on the new direct-connectors. At least one new lane is being added to I-2 in each direction. There's no question that the Valley's busiest roadway is about to experience a little less congestion. Aches and pains, however, will be the prevailing order of the day as road construction will annoy drivers as lane closures are assured due to placement of new bridge structures. Once all the dust settles in a few years, voila! One giant, new, functional interchange.

Work will also continue west of Palmview as the LaJoya bypass will chug along with their construction. It's north of U.S. Highway 83 and will eventually become part of I-2 once that portion gets done. At the moment, significant progress is being made (according to Google Street View) as of this past November, as bridge structures offer curves to take the I-2 future alignment away from the current U.S. 83. Looks encouraging!

Other highways are planned for the RGV area, but for now, great things are happening with I-2 as more miles will march westward. And a bigger connection with I-69C (which also is getting additional miles marching northward from the area) means better mobility from Edinburg to McAllen to Weslaco. I dare say, the future is bright.

Now, just to clarify, that interchange had already existed since 1993 with single-lane ramps going in each direction. The plan is to have wider ramps (one additional lane) on new, rebuilt ramps at I-69C and I-2. It'll unclog the arteries.

If our government ever gets those illegals out of that region, then I can make plans to head down there on a future visit. That area has radically been transformed like you said it was. It's not far from Padre.
