by posting a counter to the hyping of allopathic medicine. Can you please explain the nuances of this? I thought hijacking a thread was taking it into a different direction. This was a very general topic thread and only one point of view seems a bit suspicious since it's pro-medical industry.
The original post defines the scope of a thread. If the topic is "growing potatoes in Anytown," then your reply had better be discussing that. Posting about growing tomatoes there or growing potatoes in the next town over is off topic and a hijack, unless you also reference the original topic.
Note that we have to discuss this in general terms, because specific discussions about the thread you mentioned are not allowed in this forum. You have to have those discussions privately with a moderator.

You don't say if the direct message came from a moderator or from another poster. If it was from a moderator, your best bet is to pose your question directly to that person as a response to the message. If it was from another poster, why even worry about it? There are many people here with a generalized hostility.

If the thread topic is pro-allopathic medicine, you are taking it in a different direction by opposing allopathic medicine.
Unless the OP is written as a debate topic, the very word "counter" means to take in a different direction.
If you want to discuss a counter to allopathic medicine, you can start your own thread.

I also think that many posters do not familiarize themselves with the intent of a specific forum. Some are restricted to only one side of a topic regardless if an open debate was requested. These usually have some mention of the tone in a sticky post. So, although you may be responding to the question an OP wrote, it is considered off topic or hijacking to discuss anything but one viewpoint.
You and I did a good job of hijacking a Pittsburgh thread yesterday. Although I did admit it and try to get back on track.
I never claimed to be innocent of the crime. I wouldn't wonder why I got a DM saying I hijacked a thread though.
In that Pittsburgh thread, we weren't completely off track. The assumption was made that the guy should have been charged with having a non-permitted gun. You merely started off trying to explain that it was legal to carry a gun openly in public----to help the OP understand why the shooter had not been charged by the police. So then we went down a little side road discussing the details of PA gun laws, which was somewhat relevant to the topic, very insightful for me and I learned a lot. Once the discussion turned to your crazy neighbor in Maryland and you said "enough thread hijacking," I haven't posted about your neighbor since. But who could blame you??!?! It's really hard to talk about gun laws without mentioning a crazy neighbor calling SWAT on you for a perfectly legal firearm.
