I think they should remove that. It's a big part of this web site but so many of us are here because of a fascination with cities, weather, geography, etc., and not planning to move any time soon. There are so many different forums on here.

I agree. but that isn't the way it works. Whether or not a post is moved is left to the mods' discretion. Members are expected to include a concise subject, and post in the correct forum -, even if they do not know the forum exists.

FWIW, the text you describe as unnecessary is meant to help people outside of City-Data find the forums. It must be working, since the board gets hundreds of new members every day.

I can't explain right, I think the interest goes well belong moving/relocating. The rest of us are weird people that share interests in subjects that usally would be boring to an average person.

But the City-Data website IS a Moving and Relocation website. There is much more to it than just the forums. //www.city-data.com/ Outside of the forum you can find all kinds of statistics about States/Counties and Towns... as well as business profiles for anyone who wishes to have one.

The General forums were added later as a place for the regular posters to hang out and discuss other topics. The upper half (or State forums) are primarily for moving and relocation info and the lower half (or General forums) are there to let your "mind spin" as much as it wants to.

We've removed it already from several General Forums in favor of more specific descriptions and we will continue removing it from others. In the local forums you are of course welcome to talk about other issues, but relocation is still usually the most common topic of discussions.
