In general, minors can enter into contracts but the contracts are voidable, that is, they are valid unless and until the minor chooses to be released from the contract OR the minor reaches the age of majority. In fact, I rented a house to a 17 year old woman.

One major exception to the above rule is a contract for necessities. A minor who contracts for necessities cannot void the contract. Medical care, food, clothing and housing are usually considered necessities.

Obtaining employment is an interesting question. Certainly teenagers can work, subject to each state's restrictions. All of my kids worked when they were teenagers.

It's family.
That's how we felt when my sister had her daughter, as outlined in my earlier post. My niece was a member of our family, and we could all pitch in to help my sister. (Also, my sister was 18, not 15, but it would probably have been the same situation if she were younger.)

Another sister who could not have children adopted a child some years later. That niece's birth mom was not a teenager at all, but a woman in her 20s. We know that she had another child before my niece who was killed by her lover, then after my niece she had three more--another she gave up for adoption, and two that her mother took custody of. Age doesn't always correlate to responsibility.
