I'm visiting some family next week in Akron and I was planning on bringing my road bike up there to try out one of these trails. I've heard the towpath is more scenic but has a lot of crushed limestone sections that might be iffy on my ultra thin tires. I believe the B&H trail is completely paved so I'm leaning towards that but I was looking for some local opinions on the trails.

the towpath trail wont cause any problems with your bike, it is compacted crushed limestone similar to concrete and the view is spectacular !
I suggest you ride from Youngs (Manchester rd ) through downtown to Peninsula then for $2.00 you can take the train back to Downtown Akron in A/C and drink a beer then ride back to Youngs total trip around 30 miles Scenic Train Schedules - Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad

Yes! The train was a very good suggestion. Peninsula is great. The whole above post contains sound adivce. My bike as 700c x 25 tires and I can ride on the crushed limestone paths without problems.
