We cannot wait to visit and see what we think. It certainly sounds like a lovely town. A silly concern is the snowfall. We really like the snow and it doesn't sound as if Hudson gets that much. I hope sledding is a given every winter!

i would say hudson is on or near the southern border of the imfamous snow belt. the cuyahoga natl park has great sledding hills at the virginia kendal area, used to have iced bob sled shoots also, but i think thats been stopped!

Default hudson

Hello-
I am from California and recently relocated to Hudson Ohio. I live in Crown point which is near the schools and the downtown shopping. Its a wonderful place to live. The people in our neighborhood are very nice. People welcomed us with welcome baskets, cookies etc.
I read some of the comments about Hudson people being snobby and honestly I dont see it. When we first got here and told people we lived in hudson they would tease us with comments about being snobby or how it must be nice to have money. Honestly the cost of living in hudson is not that much higher than the surrounding areas. The only thing that is higher are property taxes and its not even by that much. Coming from california where you can purchase a 1200sq ft. one bedroom condo for 350K. low 300's for a 3000sq ft house sounds pretty reasonable.
We get some traffic on the main street during the regular traffic hours (lunch time, before and after work) but its not bad at all. The school system is excellent. They have a ton of activities for the kids.
I think its a wonderful place to raise a family. Shopping is close by. I love living here and I feel safe.
If you like hudson you will also like Chagrin falls.

Thank you for your comments. We are planning a trip next month to visit both Hudson and Chagrin Falls in order to determine which we prefer.

Hudson/Stow is on the southern end of the snowbelt ... you still get snow, but not like Mentor/Chardon/Chagrin Falls.
My parents [from the Detroit area] like to shop in Cleveland, and they will go skiing in the Cuyahoga valley this weekend.

"four lane roads" ... only one that sticks out to me is Darrow Road from Hudson to Stow. Ohio: the state that hates wide roads.

I will have one child entering the 2nd grade. The other two are not yet school aged but I would like for them to attend some kind of day school. I am assuming there are day schools in the area. Please let me know if you know of any.

Also, is there more than one elementary school? If so, does the school you go to depend on where you live?

We are really looking for good schools, friendly people, and a safe community with preferably some older houses as we like the character.

Do many people walk in Hudson? The town where we live now while much smaller is very healthy. Lots of people walk to school, market, etc. Lots of runners in this town too. We have a great facility to workout that most attend. Is this the case in Hudson?

Any additional information will be helpful.

Thanks.

You may also want to look at Bay Village and Rocky River on the west side of town. They are similar to Hudson and CF in terms of income, education, safety, and relative lack of diversity but they are much more convenient to downtown Cleveland and are situated right on Lake Erie.

Thumbs up Before you judge it, try living it.

My husband and I just moved from Hudson after living there for several years. We only moved because of an out-of-state relocation. We both miss Hudson dearly.

Yes, Hudson is considered a more upscale suburb of Cleveland or Akron. Yes, the average income is higher than most other towns in the region. Yes, there are some homes that are sold for well into the millions. Yes, you will find soccer moms in SUV's carting their 2.5 children to lacrosse practice. No, there is not as much diversity as some of the surrounding towns.

However, the sense of community and friendliness are amazing. The main street downtown (now enhanced with more upscale, new shopping at first and main) is so beautiful year-round. The history is amazing - check out the historical society at the gorgeous new library for the info about the long and established history of the town (especially its great service in the underground railroad). There are so many great local restaurants, businesses, and services. People in Hudson genuinely care about their neighbors, whether they live in the mansions or the inexpensive, older condos in town. In addition - many people really care about the future of the town - activism is very common and town meetings are well attended.

The schools are top-notch. Local school groups and teen-agers are very active in the community. Volunteering is common.

The town is safe, convenient, and beautiful. Some of our out-of-town friends and family referred to it as Mayberry. It has a deeply-rooted sense of community, interesting shopping and lovely historic homes. Upscale, safe, lovely? Yes. Snotty, snobby, exclusive? No, not at all. Trust me - my husband and I are not wealthy nor am I a typical soccer mom. Yet right now we are discussing strategies to get relocated back as soon as we can!
