Hi!!! Partner and I may be going in opposite directions and quite frankly I can't afford to get a place on my own. So I have a long-term friend who lives in Montgomery who has said it was "fine" if I wanted to share living expenses. What is the work situation like in Montgomery? I am in the food and beverage/hospitality industry with over 20 years experience. Should it be relatively easy to find a job? I am half-Latino/half-white but am middle-aged. I lived in Tuscaloosa for a bit over a year and my age hurt me in the work force, as to where I had to drive more than halfway to Birmingham to work. In Tuscaloosa, they wanted college students for restaurant/hotel/bar type jobs.

I have lived her all my life and can tell you that there is more opportunities here now than ever before, especially in the food/service industry. All though we are no where near where we should be as far as the amount of restaurants we have, but we are opening up more restaurants everyday. Just some that I know of are that have just started construction are; Five Guy's Burgers, Inisfree Irish Bred Pub, Chicken Salad Chick, a local 'brew pub', some new ones that have recently opened are, Saza's Italian Food, Egg-n-I, 'Central' restaurant, Cantina Mexican restaurant, and many more. These are all located in the downtown and surrounding areas. Also, there are a lot of new apartment buildings and homes being built in this area, but more importantly the old cloverdale area (real close to downtown) has much to offer as far as nice affordable homes for first time buyers, so if you do decide to get your own place they range anywhere from 50,000 for a home in need of a little TLC, to 150,000 that would get you a VERY nice one.
