my wife and I are hispanics, I was born in the USA by parents who legally came here, my wife is a legal resident who despite having a language barrier, recently graduated from nursing school. We are considering moving to Gasden or sorrounding towns in Alabama, however I am concern about the safety of my family, it's seems that many people think that latinos are here illegaly and that we are uneducated, can anyone tell me about this area, thank you!

Eddie unfortunately this stigma is not limited to latinos:>( We found Birmingham to be a really nice place. I used to teach ESL (English is third language to me) and will glaldy help your wife were you to move to the area.

While there is a stigma all over the state, it has been getting better over the past few years. I think the main reason people look, or looked, down on Hispanics was because it was just such a huge change so quickly. But, nowadays, people don't mind. Gadsden is a nice town, my dad's side of the family is from there area, so I am familiar with it. Like most of the urban centers of Alabama, it's a melting pot of many nationalities and races.
