Local News : Search continues for missing musher - Frontiersman (http://www.frontiersman.com/articles/2011/06/06/local_news/doc4dedab8416d56734320830.txt - broken link)

I don't know the lady but I know plenty of people who do, and Talkeetna's always been my town.

Not sure what's motivating me to post this here; it isn't like she's missing in an urban area where getting the word out to as many people as possible could be pivotal in locating her, but positive thoughts cost nothing and can't hurt. Wishing for her safe return.

Wild. Last thursday I heard on a local radio on the Kenai that a guy had gone on a bike ride and never came home. They were doing ground and air search and I never did hear if they've found him yet. Amazes me how folks disappear sometimes.

Last week on Memorial Day we stopped in at the lodge and she told us to go a couple of doors over for a good burger. I thought they did them there. It's strange to look back at last week to see her for the first and last time.

I've been following this search for awhile now on Facebook, getting updates from 1stimestar. Man, this just plain old sucks. Really bad.

Sending positive energy up that way.

I can't imagine a woman like that just leaving her dogs.

Just wouldn't happen.

Thanks, yes it's very sad. Here is the facebook page that we are trying to keep as the clearinghouse of the most updated info. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Have-...4060648?ref=ts

At first we thought that she went for a hike and had an accident, broke a leg or something, but it's been a week and she has not been found. She would have taken her pet dog Jane and arranged for care of her dog team and arranged to take off from her jobs if she had planned to be gone longer. The last night she worked had been really busy and when the owner came in the next morning she said she was surprised to see things not completly buttoned down like Melanie normally leaves things so my thoughts started to drift toward the kidnapping theory. I think even if she had gone for a hike, she would have taken Jane, she takes her everywhere. She left her cell phone which wouldn't be too unusual if she were going for a hike on the Denali Hwy since there isn't cell phone service. They have 20 people on the ground and search and rescue dogs. The dogs don't seem to be picking up her scent. They've kept everyone out of the search area except that small group so as to not confuse the scents even. So at this point, I don't think the outlook is very good.

I was thinking though that they haven't found forensic evidence in her truck to indicate foul play, unless something happened after she got out of it. Keep hoping she's all right but...well, you're right, it doesn't look good.
