I know that some people have no choice but public school but those parents need to keep a sharp eye on them.
I read the book. I have a 14 yo son. He is home schooled. Skinning a rat for dissection as we speak.

I'll bet that if they do, you'll be required to learn Spanish while the Spanish speaking community won't be required to learn English.

Well, I used to tutor ESL and the waiting list for Spanish speaking people to learn English was hundreds of names long. But I know what you mean.

Marty, will you be posting pics?

15 years or so ago I used to spend some time talking with a friend in Wasilla named Tony who originally came from the Nevada area and has family in Arizona. California was trying to pass some kind of an anti-immigration proposition, and while talking about it I said something about immigrants historically being good for the country... and my friend Tony went into a rant.

He literally pounded his fist on the table, and adamantly stated his case:
"There is not enough room, there has never been enough room for these people. My family has fought tooth and nail to keep them out!"
In perspective, he was telling the truth. His grandfather rode with Geronimo.

Of course today I have a couple of granchildren who are part Pueblo, and their father's side all consider Apache's to be illegal immigrants who are just as bad as the more recent ones like myself.

Interestingly, WA state recently lost a lawsuit over requiring but not issuing alien firearms licenses. Weird case really.
I would like to see the existing immigration laws enforced, both state and federal. If both the states and the feds went after US employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants, we would not have such an issue with illegal immigration.

States are not compelled to enforce federal immigration law. They could have completely different laws, or no state laws regarding immigration at all. So if a State wanted to adopt a policy where State employees are not allowed to pass on information about the immigration status of someone to the feds (as in a "Sanctuary State"), that is within their constitutional right. I don't happen to agree with that course of action, but I cannot deny that they have the right to take such a position.

So if some states employers don't have to report illegal status, does that mean the I-9 paperwork employees have to fill out and have to be kept on file by the employer, with two pieces of legal ID if citizen, and work papers or whatever for immigrants, is not used in those sanctuary states?

Unless of course such positions are imposed by Liberal State Legislators and/or activist courts in direct contradiction to the expressed will of the voters.

I said "State employees", not state employers. Federal law requires private employers to verify a persons elligibility to work in the US before they employ them, as you said. Since it is a federal law, it doesn't matter whether a State is considered a "Sanctuary State" or not, the private employers must still adhere to federal law.

It is for the legislature to decide, not the people. We don't live in a democracy, thankfully. If the people don't like what the legislature decides, let them elect a new legislature, but the people should have no direct say in any state policy.
