That last statement: It's only been in the last century or so that science and religion were considered to be opposing theories,

Doh! they have ALWAYS BEEN opposing theories.

You must be drinking heavily again to make a statement like that
Are you serious?

Even though I think the theory of evolution is complete bunk it doesn't denigrate the entire endeavor of science.

I thought this article on polar bears was an excellent example of adaptation. Made pretty good logical sense to me...

The article you posted is actually a good example of evolution at work. Polar bears, black bears and brown bears are different species. However, they all have a common ancestor that lived hundreds of thousands of years ago.

Going back much farther, all bears have common ancestors with other mammals such as racoons, dogs, foxes and wolves.

He was pretty much invited by 3 or 4 of you. You brought amongst yourselves. Now deal with it.

Not really. It's just so predictable that he'll show up with his preaching and personal attacks in almost every thread here. Some of us would rather deal with it in a classier manner than -- what has been tried before -- such as that sorry mess in his blog -- but if you're giving us carte blanche to "deal with it," I'm all for that, too. Just be careful what you ask for.

Well yes, the monks did do so - as did the Muslims who took over the lands of ancient Greece and preserved their texts - the Muslims contribution is often overlooked or ignored.

I don't think their is any "willful ignorance" taking place. There is a clash between two opposing worldviews. Not even 150 years a go - science and religion existed peacefully together and overlapped - now their is a powerful atheist movement - and the acolytes in the atheist camp have attempted to co-opt science and make it equivalent to their "scriptures". In doing so - they end up denigrating anyone who believes differently then them(i.e. those who trust God) as marginal citiizens. Science belongs to everyone and it cannot be entirely separated from religion - the two are not mutually exclusive. The two sides need to quit being so polarized in their viewpoints and understand that science and religion can mix and that more will be realized with a meeting of minds then from a war.

Science validates my faith - I can understand the workings of nature and her physical laws and know that God set them in place - and understands the processes better than we could ever hope to imagine. He is the author of life and its language - mathematics.

"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands".
