Went out dip-netting at Chitina on 1 June (subsistence area). The reds were fat, in great shape, and plentiful. Kept just the bigger ones (around 7-1/2 pounds without the heads, gut, and gills). Caught a large King, silver color from heat to tail, and a heck of a fighter. Wrapped the reds after rinsing at home, and took my time filleting the King (will post a couple of photos later). The fillets were over 32 inches long, and quite thick (over 2" at the chest area).

Talking about some delicious salmon, this king

Some friends got over 100 fish in one night on their wheel this weekend. Sounds like the run's starting pretty strong.

You are obviously just a shill on the payroll of big mining.

Did you lift this scientific tidbit from Mr. Herman Cain's 999 Pizza Plan?

Ray, I can't tell you how much it warms my heart to see that you've managed to glean some free food to offset the high cost of living in the interior.

Thanks, Met

There have been some big runs on the Copper recently, but folks at the Yukon haven't been so lucky for a free years now.

Do they taste different from salmon taken elsewhere? All the salmon I've ever eaten have tasted about the same.

What?

I never would have known that.

Hopefully you've got some good Pinot Noir to pour in your wine cup this evening to go with the salmon...or are you still on the boxed merlot?

Always have some wine with dinner, but have developed a taste for both Merlot and Cabernet, specially the ones from Australia. For some reason AU wines aren't very expensive around Fairbanks. There are some excellent wines from Chile, but they have gotten very expensive in recent years.

How is the fishing going on your side of the pond? Busy?
