Another one:
Standing by a stream full of spawning salmon, it's obvious that they are dying. One lady was really torn up that something wasn't being done to keep the fish alive.

Another time, same spot a little later in the year a guy was complaining that someone didn't come through and clean up all the dead fish and haul them away.

I heard someone asking a store clerk once somewhere along the Parks Hwy if people could just go up and pet the moose. It was obvious from the look on her face that she wanted to tell him to go right ahead.

While I was working at Disney the main lesson we taught at DisneyWay was never forget that it was probably the first time that person was asking the question. Some of the bright lights here probably have asked similar questions somewhere along the way and they should never forget the first time they asked such a question.

That's interesting, because many of the visitors to Alaska (particularly those off the cruise ships) treat anyone and everyone who they encounter like a Disney employee. Problem is, it's not actually a giant theme park.

When I was 7 and had just stepped off the jet at Anc Airport entering Alaska for the very first time...walking down some stairs headed for the front door there was a huge king crab in a display case hanging on the wall next to the stairs. I saw that thing and yelled to my little brothers "look at that giant spider!". My Dad who had been here a couple years already laughed and said that is a crab. I had no idea what a crab was coming from rural farm country of southern Minnesota. To me that was the biggest damn spider on the planet!

People first coming to Alaska off the AlCan and they want to know what the rate of exchange on American money is for Alaskan money.

Friend had a lodge called the 1260 just inside the Alaskan boarder. When asked (which was often), he would tell them two to one, they gave him a twenty and he gave them a ten..... course after the "Stupid" wore off their face, he gave them the other ten back....

Someone once asked me why we don't live in igloos in Barrow. I told them they kept getting the big screen TV wet.

I have been asked the Alaskan money question and another time someone asked me what the official language is. I've had more than a few people say things that tell me they don't know Alaska is a state and not a separate country.

And if I had a dollar for every time some yahoo brought up 30 Days of Night when I told them I live in Barrow...

A few people, when I have told them I'd love to live in Alaska for a few years (or longer if I love it the way I think I would), have had one of two reactions:

"Why would you want to live somewhere that is always snows and never gets warm?"

Or

"I could NEVER live in a place where it's dark for six months and then light for six months!"
