Has anyone seen the Northern Lights around Palmer? I checked the Aurora Forecast and it shows that tonight is a good night for this area. I checked at other times that were good for this area and never seen anything. Just wondering if anyone has seen any in this area.

I've seen them in Anchorage and Eagle River so I wouldn't know of any reason why they wouldn't be seen in Palmer too.

I took these last March here in Wasilla:
AKStafford: Great Northern Lights, Lousy Pictures

Of course you have to get away from city lights. You could drive here: http://goo.gl/maps/LhD85

Hatchers Pass gets some good aurora but mostly the parking spots face the wrong direction, along the Glenn is also good but watch out for the prison lights, they tend to bleach out the aurora. The best spot we found was out along the Old Glenn towards the Knik River Bridge, great viewing spot, wide open to the north and not too much light pollution.

Neat photo and I have a question.

Why is the ground pink? Is that a filter, light pollution or the auroras doing that? Did it look that way to the naked eye or is it the way the camera takes the photo? TIA

There a few groups on FB which are very active. Search for Aurora Lovers and Aurora Borealis Notifications. I see great pics from the Palmer area all of the time.

Although paintballa's photos are much better, I posted one a couple years ago from up at Glen Alps of the lights and the same pink hue was on the snow. It was from the light pollution, as you noted, from Anchorage reflecting off the snow.
