Pretty much. The sun sits lower on the horizon, but it can be just as light out. Was mowing the lawn at 10:30 the other night and didn't even realize it had gotten that late.

The Land of the Midnight Sun. And also known for midnight baseball without lights.

Even in Anchorage, but obviously to a lesser effect. I remember going into an imfamous "gentlemans club" (only due to some business contacts wanting to go there ) about 12:45 AM with the sun setting, and leaving about 3:15 AM with the sun coming up.
One of the most surreal things I have ever seen. Oh and the sunset/sunrise was good too.

Yep, you have to get up there to Barrow for 24 hour sun during late June and early July. But you realize the other end of that one...

Oh and on the other end of the scale, 100% humidity and 90 degree temps are very rare even in the most humid parts of the SE. The truth is when humidity climbs, the temp falls, due to cooling storms. So the humidity rarely can remain high after the storms. In fact, many places in Florida feel a relief in the heat/humidity after the afternoon storms past. This is a natural Florida pattern.

I don't understand .
For the same reasons people live in any city or state, they like it there! I have heard this question before, from tourist or me visiting the lower 48 and 90% of the time it is from people that have ABSOLUTELY no idea what Alaska is like. People don't live in igloos and there is every part of modern life that you see in any other state.

Yeah, but for 9 months it must be depressing with so little light.

Anywhere north of the Arctic Circle will have 24 hour sunlight in summer. And 24 hour darkness in winter. There's not many towns though... Barrow & Deadhorse would be the two largest, population-wise. Oh, and Kotzebue. Then you got the villages; Wainwright, Kaktovik, Point Lay, etc...

Just a quick question... What's the best time of the year to see the Northern Lights? (I apologize if this has already been discussed. I just saw this thread, and didn't want to read all the way through it.)
