It is possible that is the way they operate, though I am very skeptical. On the somewhat bright side, there is always the aftermarket to replace the radio your Toyota came with.

I had a rental car last month, a 2015 Ford Edge, that had Sirius in it. It would work while driving towards the southeast, but dropped off anytime the road headed in a different direction. It worked really well while sitting high up on the ridge at UAF.

^Huh, that's funny. Did you try sitting in the parking lot at JoAnn Fabric?

Kidding.

Which is why XM/Siruis says that they don't technically have service in Alaska. My new F350 had it and there is a invoice credit for it when you buy the truck. (Not much - like $50) because it is cheaper for Ford to put it in every truck they make rather than not put it in ones that go to AK.

One other caveat, even if you get it, because you are not guaranteed to get it, gas prices, travel alerts, and the weather map do not cover Alaska.

I had it in my 2011 F350 that I drove up from Florida and I had the weather map and travel link sub on it and even when I sat in front of te JoAnn Fabrics or other stores where I could get it those expanded services had "no data".

And while they are a tad easier to cancel now, they are a PITA to cancel. Even when you tell them you live in Alaska where you can't get it. I refuse to give them a credit card, I tell them to bill me and mail a check in. That way they have to fight me to get paid after I cancel service rather than me fight them to get credit card charges reversed. It's too bad, because I like the service, but when I don't want it or can't use it should be easy to disconnect not a pain.

The last time I drove up the highway I had excellent reception until just past Haines Junction. My experience in the Valley is that I get it when I'm at a standstill, but as soon as I move the radio fades out.
