Last year my husband and I moved from Chicago to Anchorage, and bought a dash cam to record the drive up. Life got hectic, but I finally got around to speeding up the video and posting it online. Figured I'd share here if anybody was interested in seeing the drive. There are links to each individual day in the video descriptions.

Sped up 25x - From 65 hours to 2 and a half hours:

Sped up 125x - From 65 hours to 31 minutes:

For this trip we went from the suburbs of Chicago to the Mall of America in Minneapolis, to the border crossing at Portal, ND, to Calgary, through Banff National Park and the Jasper Ice Fields, then along the Alaskan Highway through Ft. Nelson, Whitehorse, Destruction Bay, into Alaska, through Tok, down to Anchorage.

Unfortunately the camera can only catch a glimpse of the true beauty; if you enjoy road trips I'd highly recommend making the drive yourself at least once.

I did it twice, this drive in June, then again by myself in September after our house in Chicago sold. Both times were Chicago to Anchorage.

My husband has done it three times, New Jersey to Fairbanks then Fairbanks back to New Jersey when his dad was stationed at Ft. Wainwright in the mid-2000s, then this recorded drive before he started his new job in Anchorage.

If we end up moving back to the lower 48, I think we might just ferry the cars. It was a beautiful drive, but a bit exhausting and takes up a full week of vacation.

I've gotten the drive through Canada from Montana to Alaska or Washington to Alaska or Alaska to either place down to two nights/three days to cross now. I used to take my time, but now I just cruise through.

Jasper and Banff are a must do. I've crossed into the states from Washington to North Dakota. Each time is a different adventure.

I love road trips.

I watched most of the 125X speed video. Pretty cool!

Alaska is a beautiful state. If I was ever able to secure employment there which paid me enough to make a living and enjoy Alaska I would move there in a heart beat.

-Cheers.
