It raises zero suspicions as long as all the paper work is in order. Many people from southeast Alaska fly down to Seattle/Portland area to purchase new vehicles. Then drive to Prince Rupert and get on the ferry there. Happens all the time.

it is one thing with a temp plate from those states but from Georgia??? We cross the border a lot in a years time on the east coast...going thru from VT, NY or Maine..... anyone with temp plates or anything not completely in their name, out of place such as rejection sticker, is subject to a pull over, inside question, and search.

It's okay, make sure all paper work is in order NicaD, just print out a copy of this forum page...get Stiffer's phone number then IF you do have any trouble at the border ...show them the print out and call Stiffer to come and help ya out!

I'm not sure I would even get stiffbrain involved in crossing any border even the one to Hades. There I'd have a pristine copy of 'Dante's Inferno' and invite stiff to read it to the border crossing agent. That should get everyone involved in for a strip search and a slow boat ride to Alaska.

I've driven a van up from Seattle with a temp registration on it before. I had no problem crossing both borders.

It's funny how the village idiots always chime in on somethin' they've never done before. I personally bought a new Ford Windstar and Ford F-150 from Sound Ford in Seattle and drove them to Prince Rupert with temporary tags from Washington State DMV.

I can't believe (well, actually I can) that a simple thread about crossing the border has disintegrated into a low-brow flame fest. Typical of this place lately.

To all the lurkers/readers...this is not reflective of the Alaska that I know.

Of course the border crossing is use to seeing temp tags from WA state and possibly CA/OR.....driving thru so many states with temp tags from Georgia might be an issue and might not be....the OP should check with the Canadian border first and their insurance company. The insurance company might have restrictions also regarding temp tags going out of state and country.

Well it's been a couple of years since I did the US/CAN/AK crossing, we had a couple of issues *cough* Pets *cough* Ammo *cough*, and the fact that I was driving a WA registered truck, and my wife was driving an AZ registered U-Haul. The Pets were a no brainer (they took a 2 microsecond glance at the paperwork), the Ammo was a no brainer (we'd declared it), the kicker was the Arizona plates on the U-Haul, then the magazines, and a guitar case (which I won't bore you about).

Anyway suffice it to say we had a 90 minute or so delay while Canadian Customs slowly realized my wife could fold space and time to enable to storage of 1000 cubic feet of stuff into the back of a 10x8x8 U-Haul truck, this led them to conclude it was in the public interest to only open the tailgate and then hope that we weren't bringing in anything illegal.

Sometimes it appears that Canadian Customs just have a hair about weird things.
