Yep, $60 a day. Find out if that is only the days that you fish or if it includes days in port. Are your food and bunk included or do you have to pay?

Still $60 a day isn't bad for a greenhorn. Just call it otj training. At least you are getting paid. Some people might pay to do this work.

But I gotta tell you, I remember days heading back to port after a 30 hour opening laying on the back deck asking myself why I volunteered for this. Sometimes it doesn't matter how good the pay day was.

I'm curious- Shane. Do you plan on staying in Alaska and becoming part of the community, or are you coming here in hopes of making a quick buck?

Hot damn, I wish. They do pay more than most places down south, though. Gotta make up for the ridiculous cost of living...

Shane, that thread you can't find is titled "For those coming to Alaska to Fish", it's near the bottom of the first page, posted by RayinAK on 3/23/08. I believe he included a link for an article about some fishermen who recently died on one of those boats.

Default deckhand jobs

You can check with any coastal fishing community's Job Service and they will have listings as they receive them. First fishery out of the gate is Cordova, but may be tough to land a job on any boat that fishes Copper River fish successfully. Kodiak is good, but like Cordova is not on the road system and will be more expensive to live while job hunting. The big sockeye fishery in Bristol Bay has many fishers coming from outside the area and one might even get hooked up out of Washington state as easy as Alaska for that one. The Kenai Peninsula has some action with setnetting, driftnetting and seining all going on at once. Easy access, on road, lot cheaper living but the fishing tends to be mediocre. Last area is southeast in late summer. Again, off road and can be expensive to sit while seeking work.
Deckhand jobs have been easy to come by with the downturn in fish prices over the years but prices are showing some improvement.
Here's the Job Service link...ALEXsys - The Alaska Labor Exchange System - Home Page.
