Doesn't anyone know anything about Thorne Bay or this lodge?
Apparently not! What do you need to know? Call them
up, or maybe contact Ketchikan visitors bureau.

Waste of time. The Lodge has been for sale going on five years - no one wants to tell me why - landslides, earthquakes, tide lands disputes...........

Usually it’s because owner just wants out and to move on. I can tell you for sure it isn’t due to earthquakes.

Landslides? The area is basically flat. Their DNR lease agreement has probably been stable for decades. Not a terrible tsunami target if there is a large offshore earthquake though sea level rise will get them eventually. A small scale independent place like that is hugely expensive and exhausting to operate. Harvest quotas for trophy sport fish have been declining (no more big sprees for clients), independent traveler costs rising, insurance, wages rising (and keeping good employees harder), utilities, and everything else rising. I've known several owner/operators of small lodges in SE bush towns. Even with fine reputations/customer reviews they barely survive. The owners may simply be aging and ready to quit doing it all.
