Since you're in the area, stop in Wyoming at Devil's Tower National Monument, that place was sweet.

I'm coming in through Montana, then heading through Calgary, Edmonton, and the Alcan. It sounds fairly simple to me, but I'm sure I can manage to screw it up.

Well, I'm passing by Mt. Rushmore - staying the vehicle, foot on the gas, passing by it just to see it. lol I don't really care to see more tourists! Besides, Wind Cave has the morning's attention!

I'd love to, but that's almost two hours extra... I just don't have the time if I want to hit the border by Monday morning and be slightly lucid while doing it.

Last August when we drove back to Alaska from Baker, Montana, we drove north and crossed into Canada in Saskatchewan. I liked this route compared to going through Calgary, which is a mess. By taking this route we didn't have to mess with changing highways while crossing Edmonton where there are over a million people and major traffic. We drove to Regina, Moose Jaw, Saskatoon and stayed on highway 16 the whole way. After passing Edmonton, jump up to Highway 43 in Canada and that'll take you Dawson Creek, BC, the start of the Alaska Highway. Cross into Canada north of Plentywood, Montana and stay north on highway 6 to Regina and take 16 across the rest of Saskatoon. Highway 16 is a four lane highway up through most of Saskatchewan.

Another great memory but I just don't remember it. I'll have to look it up and see if it looks familiar. Thanks!

Good luck on tomorrow's journey, Sarah!

This is the route I'm taking about. Saskatchewan is nice and flat, too. Don't have to mess with the Traffic on I-90.

from:rapid city, south dakota to:46.21025,-103.425293 to:HWY-1 E/Trans Canada Hwy E @50.403030, -104.594400 to:Anchorage, AK - Google Maps

Here are some shots of the trip north from Montana through Saskatchewan. We crossed at Plentywood, MT and in to Saskatchewan.

Also has pictures through BC.

Those are great pictures Warpt! I'll definitely consider that route, I'd love to keep out of Calgary but I don't know if I want to add the extra time to my journey. I'm ready to get to my new home darn it!

A friend made me borrow their GPS too, so I'll have to see what route it suggests out of Rapid City too. lol Too many options!

Keep in mind, you don't have to mess with the hills of Montana and the major cities through it, too. The highway is nice in Saskatchewan and there was a lot of places that they were rebuilding last summer, should be nicer now. I never did like going through Calgary and finding my way from highway to highway in Edmonton. This route I showed you takes you right across the main highway straight through town. I've done the Alcan 13 times now.

The way I posted is shorter compared the drive through Montana which is at 3,032 and the route I showed was 2,971.
