I have never really thought about the religion that is predominate in Alaska.

I noticed that Mrs. Palin is a fundamentalist/evangelical and I pulled up on google a video of her presenting to the Assembly of God church where she went most of her life.

Do most Alaskans share her religious views and what is the primary religion both in Anchorage and in smaller towns (I realize it may differ)?

From what I've been able to tell, not really.

I haven't seen much evidence that most people in the valley even attend church.

Religion is a personal issue. Certainly you can't label a state by the religious affiliation of its governor and/or elected officials. Okay....well maybe Utah....but, you know...

Alaska has a pretty typical distribution of religions, I would think.

The only trend I can think of is that russian orthodoxy is more prevalent in bush alaska than any other part of the nation, but I think that's fading out

we have a healthy population of new age / bohemian modern hippies as well though they often don't vote

We do have a smaller population of real bible-bangers here, at least where I live. These folks can be pretty 1950's/outer-limits (one parent didn't think it was appropriate that I was the only supervisor on an overnight work trip with 4 teenage boys) but usually they stay in the background and keep to themselves.

Most people I've met are moderate Christian to "unaffilliated"--meaning they don't spend Sundays in church but are out catching fish, killing deer, or otherwise enjoying the natural church instead.

Alaska (at least my part) has got to be one of the most relaxed and tolerant states I've encountered as far as religion. It's truly "live and let live;" a few exceptions re. school curriculum, etc. are bound to come up occasionally.

There is no "primary" viewpoint. Alaskans are as varied as humans are anywhere else.

I don't quite understand your comment that there is no primary viewpoint. Every geographic area has a predominate religion. It is simply a matter of statistics.

If you want to get technical then Alaska is predominately Christian religion wise. I'll bet though that the majority is unaffiliated as Alaskagrl stated.

This "geographic area" isn't the size of most others. Just like the lower 48 (as one geographic area), it resembles Christian on the surface...and is very varied underneath.
