It is hit or miss. There is always aurora happening. Whether we see it all depends on the magnetic fields of earth. when they turn south the aurora gets good. But when they face north you will see aurora but just not that good. Then the weather is also a factor in whether you see it or not. And lately it has been cloudy on nights where there was some good aurora.
But I think you will get to see some auroral activity while your there and then you will be like the rest of us wanting more. ( Its like chocolate you have 1 piece and you want more )

Thank you so much! As my trip is getting closer, I am getting more and more excited (and worrisome!). I have been to Morocco and Europe, but this is BY FAR the trip I am most excited about!

I think it won't take much for me to get the fever, because I already have it from here! There was a series of shows on the Travel Channel this past Sunday on Alaska and two of them included Northern Lights segments.

I may have to substitute Aurora Addiction for MASS amounts of actual chocolate...cause I probably won't see them from California!

I keep getting remarks from people about the weather, and the fact that I am going to die in the frozen tundra, but I am planning on surviving...

Actually, the Lights do appear there once in a great while...November of 2004 was such a time. A grand ol sunfart (CME) occurred and they could be seen clear into Arizona. Some in Hawaii claimed to have witnessed them as well.

Geophysical Activity Forecast: The geomagnetic field is
expected to be quiet on the first two days of the forecast perioed
(23-24 November), becoming unsettled on day three (25 November) in
response to a recurrent coronal hole high speed stream.
