It all depends on the magnitude of the display
Lately, it has been between midnight and three in the morn and well away from any town lights. When the solar maximum builds in strength, sunspots, et al...displays overhead are not that unlikely.

If one needs a cure for insomnia, a new puppy works wonders
I tried to stay awake to check on the Lights but 10:30 pm came around and I gave up...she was sleeping, I needed to sleep!
Only was up with her once at around 4:40 am this morn...took her outside and glanced up. One of the most dramatic displays was taking over the Northern part of the sky, stretching East to West. Bree did her thing and I picked her up, holding her as she returned to sleep and stood in awe of it all. I could detect blue and greens and very active movement...ribbons, banners, rippling, pulsating, curtains...I shot nary a photo, merely observed. I felt rather humble and small under all of that beauty. I even heard the Lights last night.
For 20 minutes I stood still, sleeping pup in my arms, Lights dancing about in abandonment...it was a good night.

Yes it was nice wasn't it. I had been looking from about 1am onward and the best stuff I saw was around 4:30am. After about 20 minutes it died down so I went in. Just after 5am I took a look out my bedroom window and saw more going but I was way tired and had already gotten ready for bed so I just stood inside and watched for another 5 minutes then was sleeping within the next 5.

Lately, it has been between midnight and three in the morn and well away from any town lights. When the solar maximum builds in strength, sunspots, et al...displays overhead are not that unlikely.
I tried to stay awake to check on the Lights but 10:30 pm came around and I gave up...she was sleeping, I needed to sleep!
