Well perhaps one year they can enter the Iditarod... I know there are folks that do it just for the fun of it.

Barkley, I thinks would have to be rich to enter the Iditarod for the fun of it...lots of bucks in just food alone that go out on pallets by the truckload...then the other expenses...they have sponsors now like everything else to foot some of the bills...

Yeah I think that would take mega bucks, years of training, and way more knowledge than we have. My younger son is talking of maybe trying the Jr Quest next year, even though it is costly as well due to all the equipment you have to have plus we would have to buy a new sled. We have to get a couple more dogs and work the kinks out. There is lots of training involved in that as well. So for now we are happy just learning and being out there with the dogs. After all life is moving quickly for them and I would rather them just enjoy being out with the dogs than feeling like they must train and making it a sport. Now if they decide to take it in a different direction that is fine. I hope that the next couple of years that they are living at home there will be lots of memories made that they will take with them forever.

Having a good running Iditarod team takes lots of money and heavy training year round. We have a few local mushers run it and they said it was pretty hard to keep the dogs up and running for the whole race. Many of them have only ran it once, too much work! There is food drops for each checkpoint and equipment that costs a lot, too. Sleds aren't cheap, either. Just as long as they're having fun with what they have should be fine

Yeah the darn supplies for mushing will break you up. We got a killer deal on a sled and equipment but it was still pretty steep. I haven't even looked at the prices for racing sleds,I bet that would be scary. And when your into heavy racing the food has to be top notch and then some thus = $$$$$$$I think we will do it for fun and maybe do the JR. Quest next year but if we don't thats fine as well.

My oldest has decided that he is going to run the JR. Quest this year. So now his training will begin,I am going to be talking to a couple of mushers that race on a regular basis to see if they can offer pointers.
