<Shhh! I think that's the primrose pathway there. Sort of like the Yellow Brick Road, and just as illusory.>

Yeah, they are cute that young. Once they hit 9 months they start school. At two years they might not be all that big but they don't let anyone near the house or Red without raising hell. One of the easier breeds to work with I've come across. Very intelligent, protective and loyal to a T.

This is our last two out of 18. MoJo on the left and Mjoollnir on the right.

Full winter coats on the left pic. Summer trim on the right. Heats been so crazy down here had to give them the summer cut in December.

That's why they love the boat! Daddy takes em out fishing every chance I get. But after a nice yellowtail their breathe reeks like nothing else out there,
oooh boy, those kisses are to be avoided and they sleep outside after fish dinners. They love it fresh or frozen.

Good Dogs!

I have risen from the dead. A few pounds lighter and with not such a clear head. It's -41 in Kuparuk today. So, we are in the midst of a shutdown. Equipment cannot work at this temperature. Not well anyhow. So, I am still inside no wandering for me today till it warms up anyhow.

Ahh, the joys of Alaska in winter-time! When a man's thoughts turn to flights of fancy and visions of the new shop dance in his head.

I went down to the Anch School District data center to shut them down. The utility is replacing the transformer that crapped out and the big uniniterruptible power system is on it's last legs. So I had to trick**** the machine into shutting down. That's not the problem. In about 2 hours, I have to do the same to get it back on line. This is analagous to taking a beater onto the I-5 in LA at rush-hour on a 100 degree day and trying to take a trip up the Grapevine to get to the Central Valley. You might be able to do it, but it's a nail-biter of a drive. In addition, the SOA data center here in Anchorage has 2 big Cat 3412 generators (500kW each). We went in on a new service contract and had to replace the fuel pump immediately onone of them. The other generator hasn't worked in 10-12 years. My tech took off the fuel pump and in the sump saw the lube oil looked like a vanilla milk shake. Now, I'm not a mechanic, but directing a bunch oif them over the years has given me some basics. This means the lube oil has emulsified with coolant. For the uninitiated, this is a "bad" thing. The state is whining about having no money to replace a generator. Uh-huh. Ooookay. How much data are you prepared to lose of the power goes out, your battery backup runs out, and you have no generator?

And then there's the Exxon module we're building. They got their leases back at Pt. Thompson and want it yesterday. I think we have a week of work left, but I could be wrong. It could be 2 weeks.

I need a vacation and have 6 weeks saved up. I'm just the assistant service manager, but my boss, the service manager is out of state for 3 months. What are the chances? 30,000 of labor to complete in 6 months and 20 people to do it. I have the people for 10,000 in 6 months at straight time and if they work straight twelves, I might get 25,000 hours done. If no one gets sick, or just plain tired.

ARRRRRRRRGH!

The problem isn't that they don't see this or that they didn't see it coming. They don't want to hire people and then lay them off when the job is done. In a lot of ways, this is a caring company. My boss is getting a medical procedure done and the company is really great. They feel if they hire someone and like them, they don't want to have to let them go, so they get caught in this dilemma of their conscience vs. profit.
