What's so funny about the question? What is the price of gold again? What State are we talking about? Gold in them there mountains!

Heck, there was a documentary on the tube that was based on Alaskans who pan for gold in the warm months and make a nice bit of change in those few months. I do realize the State is very large and its resources are spread out, but what do I know? That's why I asked the question.

.
Look up Alaska Mining and Diving Supply. They have an awesome forum for gold prospectors and miners. Then you won't have to put up with answers from the widjits on here.

what is so funny is "make a living"...that is way different than making a nice amount of change during warm months...do some research, make sure you are not on someones land...it is not as easy as one thinks to pan for gold, expensive to stake claim and buy equipment to dredge...then get the equipment out of the claim area.

well according to the c*$*#% they are putting on tv...you can just haul equipment up after you clear using the land...then have at it...destroying the land, water ways etc.....give it a year or so Rance and people will be able to go out and claim some of the abandoned equipment of these yahoos that die in the process, lose everything they have ....well you know the rest!! ahahhahhaa I worked on a dredge on 40 mile river...not easy work!

I wouldn't do it. Nothing is ever easy. My thought really wasn't making it only on panning but to subsidize if anything. Not at all familiar with the area and may never make it to Alaska, not getting any younger. But it is nice to dream that one day I'll post on a thread about panning and the locals say "it'll never work" whilst panning themselves keeping their golden secret to themselves. Then I'll find myself up dare in da hills panning when I strike the motherload in 10 minutes!!!

Locals then throw me out of town.

I know one person who pans for gold during the summer as sort of a hobby. Sometimes he makes money, sometimes not.
