Thanks for the info Warpt. I must have spent at least an hour looking through as many pictures as I could. I was there for a couple of days from the 14th to the 18th of Feb to take a poke around the town & see what it was like before I accept a job offer from the city. A lot of friendly people and good experiences. As for the weather, no big deal. That's what they have thermal/cold gear for. I'll be back the beginning of next week to start work & become a more permanent resident of Bethel, AK. Look forward to seeing you all out there.

ah, a new city employee. Welcome What department are you going to be working in? As for weather recently... I love me some attached garage at the house.

I'm seeing the forecast is to -20 this weekend before wind... I'm leaving Friday for a Very Big City and the temps there have been around 60 degrees. MMmmmm....

60 degrees...forgot how that felt. I'm sick of winter. It was a cold riding to work yesterday morning and today...

Which Dept.? My secret!!!! I'm pretty sure I will bump into you all while I am there. Besides if you try & hide I'll make it a point to come find you. Except Warpt. I already know where he works. So he's an easy target As for everyone else I always enjoy a challenge in new areas.

Creebo where abouts are you going to? It's been in the 60's the past few days here where I am & it's been great. So I should enjoy it for as long as I can since when i get there it's going to be freezing. Any ideas on what I should do when I first arrive? Whatever pops into your head, please don't hesitate.

lol... I'm pretty hard to find... unless i send in a pic to the news and then post it here, right warpt?

I'm going to go be a tourist in Washington DC... I'm excited, as I've never been.

Re: council meeting.... huh. Yeah... I think it's great but it's hard to eat pie in the sky with a hard metal fork. I don't think there's anything wrong with getting actual things in line. I feel like frequently the grants stuff just falls out of the air - it's NEVER lined up ahead of time and there's no notice, and no suspicion that we may or may not qualify for whatever - it's always last minute. It doesn't work like that anywhere else and it gets old that that's what happens in Bethel.

I want the rec center as much as the next person - I hate that there's nowhere to teach kids in this community to swim - but only if we're not going to have to shutter it 2, 4, 5, etc yrs from now for lack of funding.

As far as the comment about "community leaders" on the radio tonight - that's the kind of small town politics that make Bethel so special. We all have one voice, one opinion... and that's about all it's worth. Sometimes the undercurrent of 'you're not from here' gets old so fast. (coming from a lifelong Alaskan and almost 7-yr Bethel resident). In the "real world" 'who you are' or how long you've lived somewhere doesn't automatically get you a golden ticket.

Oy... unloading.
