Why are nursing licenses in Alaska so expensive? Over $400.00 for an RN to endorse. I just paid $130.00 for a California license.

Were you planning on moving to AK? Just curious why you ask if you just got a California license.

Travel nursing. Alaska was listed in one of my recruiter's emails for up and coming assignments.

Many states who don't have the population base have higher license fees. I also have several different licenses. My Colorado license (which is a compact state) is much more than my California license. (I also have my NP wihich is an additional fee on top of a RN license.) California probably has 10 times as many nurses as Alaska hence the cheaper license fees. I will surmise that running the board and licensing all the personnl isn't any cheaper in Alaska than it is in California.

Nursing is the best profession and I feel a lot of gratitude to be a part of it. I know that it seems like a lot of money but it keeps the profession properly regulated (although it makes it a bit expensive to travel!!) Good luck in getting an assignment!!

Massachusetts is still $100 but it is the continuing education credits needed to maintain your license that add up big time!

please note if you work on a federal installation, whether it be a military treatment facitiliy (military hospital/clinic), VA facility, IHS facility, etc, you can work with any license from any state.
when i move to Alaska, i will come with just my Texas license. The only reason i would get an AK RN license is if i want to "moonlight" in civiliian facilities on my days off

Alaska wants you to stay in Alaska. The 1st application is the big one then it is about the price of any other state every 2 years.

One shift right...? no biggee.
