Yes, adding some humidity to the house, while the furnace is running and it is extremely cold outside, will help decrease the static you are experiencing. Boil a pot of water on the stove or set out a few pots/bowls of water for natural evaporation if you do not want to spend the $$ on a whole-house or room humidifier.

We seemed to have more trouble with our skin being dry than static when we first got here last year. I use fabric softener in every laundry load and I can't live without a favorite moisturizer once a day. Hubby likes this neutrogena after bath oil, though I swear one day I'll break a leg getting out of the shower is so slick .

you're becoming dehydrated, it will happen in the winter. also check you vit D and E levels, but vit D is more important.

If you wear clothing or socks made of plastics and some synthetic materials, as well as walking on the rug with socks or shoes on, the static electricity won't slowly dissipate. It means that when you touch the light switch, lamp, or any other place that is grounded (such as the dog, friend, wife, kid, that are barefooted), the static electricity will be discharged on them. The dog may not like that very much If you walk barefooted on the rug, static electricity takes longer to build on you body. If you wear polypropylene thermal underwear, for example, a lot of static electricity will build-up in your body. Some women dresses have plastic materials in the fiber, and these dresses, although quite exiting to look at on pretty women, cling to their bodies when wearing shoes that insulate their feet from the ground. A good thing is that in Alaska men mostly wear casual garments during the winter months, and women don't wear high hills and clingy dresses

One thing i like about Alaska is that one can dress any way one wants, and nobody complains about it. I still see some women wearing high hills around Fairbanks, but usually newcomers. Once they slide on the ice and hit it, hopefully with their rump, they learn pretty fast. Also, I have seen a few women wearing the fancy and thin leather shoes and boots they wear in NYC during the winter months, but these too learn pretty fast when their toes hurt from the cold When I was younger and free to do such things, it was a blast to look at clingy dresses, but now clingy dresses on good-looking ladies I find cute, and a good way to bring a smile to their faces.

With all the static electricity around I just rub balloons and stick them to the wall.

Opps! I stand corrected. I rely too much on the spell checker of my computer

But it gets worst when I am typing and enjoying a nice cup of cabernet wine. Talking about a lot of screwed-up typing from me

If you use polar fleece try this. Grab a pencil and rub your feet across the carpet a few times and touch the lead to a metal shelf, you'll see one hell of a spark!
