Hello all! It's been awhile since i spent countless hours on the alaska forum (last year my bf and i talked about moving to alaska after we get married, but we have yet to really come to the commitment of moving so far from home) This summer we want to take a vacation (hopefully) we are from Ohio and if we really want to move somewhere out of state where better to start than by taking a trip? What are some ideas for us? I'm not even sure where to begin when it comes to a visit to alaska, i've checked around some websites, but wanted some personal opinions if you can spare the moment!

Start with where you wanted to be before...(did a check...) maybe Fairbanks, Denali, the springs, maybe partially down the haul road...maybe down to Seward or Homer...It is going to depend on how much time you have...don't try to cram mega things into minimal days...it takes the fun out of the vacation...Beware of that time of year with Guido (penguin, fangs...you know), but just have fun

Are you going up the Parks or the Glenn? I suppose the Parks Hwy is more direct.

Rent a car from Anchorage and drive...

Depends how long you will be here, but you can check out...

Eagle River
Wasilla
Palmer
Hatchers Pass
Mantanuska Glacier
Denali National Park or Valdez
---
Seward
Whittier
Girdwood
Homer
---

That way it's a mix between areas you might want to live and areas for visitors. I highly recommend hiking on Mantanuska Glacier, great experience and a beautiful drive!
