Not on the road, just in FBs.

No....no movie theater on POW. We use Netflicks.

Ray wouldn't buy a new truck so I didn't get to go anywhere.

Do you guys think we might be better off if we were to buy a lower cost house, instead of looking for a rental? We were looking at the first house on this page (because of the low cost of it)

http://www.alaskaislandrealty.com/

It is kind of scary for us to buy a house that we have never seen in a town we have never been to, but with small amount of rentals in the area we might be able to rent it out if things don't work out and we leave after a year.

One things that seems to plague houses on POW is black mold. I'd want it written in stone that the place didn't have it before I bought it. Do your children have any allergies at all? Both my son and one of my nieces has done time in the Ketchikan hospital because of black mold, and sometimes it can be hard to tell if a place has it or not.

I think you need to look at the house first...you can write a trip to do so off on next year's taxes...

You mentioned yurts in an earlier post....those Harris River lots might be a good spot for one...that could be rented out too if things didn't work out. That's also really a great location.

I don't know how to put it delicately but there is a reason that people tend to invest more in vacation/seasonal rentals than in standard rental properties on POW. That makes it tough on people such as yourself who would probably make good renters.

Thanks for the tip. We are wrapping up the process on buying a house in Craig. While we are nervous to be buying a house that we have never seen in place we have never been, we are super excited to be moving to the island. We are so ready for warmer weather and milder winters.
