Well, I tried for three days by phone and by email to get in touch with someone at the hostel, so I could see if they have any space available on the days I wanted to be down there. No answer.

My last ditch shot was to contact the Methodist church directly (that the hostel is attached to), to see if the hostel was still running and if they had space on those days.

Someone from the church forwarded my email and I received a response back today. I'm going to Ketchikan!!

I'm booking ferry rides tomorrow - down on Friday June 11, play tourist Saturday June 12, and take the ferry back to Juneau with SO/his brother/dog on Sunday June 13.

I'm going on an adventure, and very excited. It's been a long almost-5 months and I have worked very hard. Can't way to visit a new part of Alaska, and can't wait to see SO.

Thanks to everyone who gave suggestions. I really appreciate everyones' ideas.

Sounds like a fun trip; glad it worked out. The trail up Deer Mountain is a nice little day hike. I know it's touristy but the carvers out at Saxman are worth seeing too and I think they have a shuttle that goes out there.

I'm not hyping this place at all, just found them online:

Second the Deer Mtn hike - it's awesome. Ward lake is nice too if you're not into the gains in elevation.

I hope you enjoy KTN. I wish I could live there!
