Hi,
I am looking at some jobs in Albany. I was wondering what would be an area with a reasonable (about 30 - 40 minute) commute that has good schools and where we would be able to afford some land. My husband will be at home and he really wants at least 1 acre to garden and raise chickens.
Thanks in advance
Oh, one area we are considering (via realtor.com) is Coxsackie, anyone know anything about it?)

Schuylerville, Northunderland, Moreau, Wilton (all in Saratoga)
You might do use the SEARCH function on this FORUM using the town name for more information. Schuylerville School District is very good and the area out near Quaker Springs is farm like land.

What about the Voorheesville, Averill Park and Schalmont areas? Wouldn't they have some rural parts of those school districts? All of those school districts are good too.

Personally, I would go East or South. Coxsackie is pretty rural and close to the NYS Thruway, making the commute to the City quick & easy. (They also do the best job of clearing roads in the snow). Also, on my side of the river, there is; Valatie & Nassua, and close to interstate 90. Of course Land & School Taxes are wicked in NY and jobs aren't the best... BUT there are far worse places.
it is a beautiful state and we have Mountains, Gorges, beaches and farmland. If you have a job here, that's half the battle.....

Default Delanson, NY?

I don't know anything about Coxsackie except that I bought a dog from a breeder there years and years ago. Great dog.

You might want to look at Delanson real estate listings. Delanson is in Schenectady county but I see some Albany County listings on the sites as well.
I think Delanson is sort of a catchall name for a bunch of rural and semi-rural areas to the west of Albany.
You're likely to get a chance at a little land there.
Generally, I think, anywhere in Delanson would be 30-40 minutes to Albany.
