I lived in the South Valley from 1947 until 1966 when I entered military. I only return to visit family. I will Never move back (been gone too long). There are houses everywhere on what used to be farms or open country, and it's nothing like when I was a kid. It has bee ruined forever. SAD!!!!!

I remember a dairy in the south valley (Swanson's? Swenson's?) where we used to get milk, in glass bottles with paperboard caps. I think I was too young to really appreciate that.

That dairy was on Tapia and was owned by Swen Swenson and his wife or daughter Fern. She had two daughters - Velma and Irene. I believe she had a sister named Irene as well. I have a couple of those glass milk bottles and caps!!

I remember when it said "Ken Schultz IS a great mayor"! I think it remained in the present tense for at least a decade after Schultz's term. That slogan and the clearly hand-painted military badges were great wall decorations and really livened up that not-too-exciting stretch of Candelaria. I was very sad when the wall was finally painted a uniform battleship gray and the landscaping was allowed to die off. (In large part because given that sign's 20+ year tenure I figured it meant the original homeowner had probably passed away or moved on too).
