Just curious, I know these two metros are quite the distance but I'd like to know where Burquenos would like to go if they want to venture to a major metro area perhaps for some major league sports venues, big city shopping/dining, or just an urban weekend out of town. Phoenix and Denver seem to be the nearest somewhere around a 6 hour drive (give or take) or an hour flight. Which city would you prefer? Phoenix or Denver. Explain your preferences in details and the pros and cons of both cities from a Burqueno point of view.

Have been to both many times; can't pick a hands-down favorite. Both are about 7 hours' drive.

Denver advantage:

*Cheaper, easier airfare (Phoenix has too few operators and too much demand, making flights there min. $99 each way vs. $29 each way or less for Denver)
*More "downtowny" experience if that's your thing (Phoenix doesn't do much for walkable high-rise neighborhoods, and top-end restaurants like steakhouses tend to go for old high-rise neighborhoods)

Phoenix advantage:

*Better winter weather
*Cleaner-feeling (probably mainly because its dense urban areas are just newer)
*Better traffic (slightly)
*Fresher produce

For scenery, hiking, and people, they're wonderful in both but wonderful in different ways. Strictly preference-based.

Having been to both recently, I'd say for me (and what I enjoy doing), Denver is head-n-shoulders over Phx.

I have no plans to visit Phx ever again, while I will be back up to Denver regularly.

I've lived in Phoenix and I'd take Denver over it any day.

Both places have numerous things to do, but Denver has more things to do in a smaller area and they feels as if there more connected.

Denver is far more "urban" than Phoenix, which is one of the reasons I prefer it. I grew up in suburbia, I couldn't wait to get out.

It depends on the time of year. If it's summer you couldn't pay this Burqueño to go to Phoenix but I'd gladly go to Denver, although Denver gets as hot as Albuquerque. In winter it's nice to escape Albuquerque for a few days and go to a milder locale. Normally I prefer Tucson, but I'm growing a list of things to see in Phoenix so that will probably be my next stop. The new(ish) Musical Instrument Museum on the north side of Phoenix is supposed to be spectacular and the largest of its kind in the world, I've been looking forward to cooler weather to head over there.

You don't have to choose between them, you can do both. I don't go for shopping or major-league sports, just a change of environment, or for a specific activity. So this winter will be Phoenix for the MIM, and I'm semi-planning to run a race in Boulder in May so that will include a stop in Denver.

Coming from New York, I find both Denver and Phoenix extremely suburban, like Albuquerque.

NYC also gets suburban outside the city as well.
