I also agree that rental lines are a downer, but if you're getting the whole package including lesson and rental I don't think you have the option to rent the day before. So that will probably add to the price.

Any way you look at it, it's an expensive proposition. This is why I've abandoned both downhill skiing and snowboarding and taken up x-country. No lines, no long freezing lifts, no expensive lift tickets, less stress.

On a bad day it can take 3 hours just to drive into NYC. Typically an hour & 45 minute drive for me.

And NO THRILLS!

There is absolutely nothing more satisfying than floating down a steep slope covered in 2-3 ft of fresh powder the night before.

Ski rentals are for the rank amateur. Any serious skier soon owns at least their own boots. If a person doesn't have the need to keep up with every new fad/technical change, ski equipment can last for years if properly cared for.

I saw this topic, even though it may be old and had to reply! This summer I went from Los Alamos to Taos and then all the way down to Roswell in the same day. If I remember correctly there was a little rd called US 20 on the way to Roswell where I saw zero cars or signs of humans for what seemed like forever at night. Totally worth it driving through the Carson National Forest at night, such a surreal feeling up in those areas.
