Last night on CNBC there was a show called "Greed". It featured Doug Vaughn; "real estate mogul". I caught it while flipping channels. Today I looked it up and the epi is called "Wild West Ripoff". It is Episode #72, from 27 March 2013.
It is an hour long show. Just thought I would post this in case it might interest anyone. There were repeated references to his "mansion" in the gated community of Sauvignon, which is not familiar to me. Also prominently featured was the owner of the McGinnis (sp) driving school and another man whose name I thought I recognized at the time, but that does not mean I remember it now....
When we moved to NM, we used Vaughan Realty as a buyer's agent. We were very happy with the service we got, but were never offered an opportunity to "invest" with Doug.
Chief United States District Judge Bruce D. Black sentenced Douglas F. Vaughan, 64, of Albuquerque, to 12 years in federal prison for wire and mail fraud charges that involved a Ponzi scheme in which Vaughan fraudulently obtained more than $74 million from approximately 600 investors. In addition to the prison sentence, Judge Black also imposed a money judgment against Vaughan in the amount of $74,745,723.93, which represents a portion of the gross proceeds that Vaughan derived from his criminal conduct. Additionally, Vaughan has agreed to forfeit to the United States previously-seized funds in the amount of $38,298.24 and real property located in Spring Valley, Nevada.
