That or, having lived in Gallup and finding it utterly detestable - I'm afraid employers might think I'm OF Gallup rather than a temporary resident.

I just don't know what I'm doing wrong.
As someone who's found that the TEACHING jobs, at least, in and around Gallup are probably the best in the state and have the highest retention rate in the STATE, first of all let me tell you that yes, people elsewhere in the state DO look down on people "from" Gallup. It's some kind of "six letter curse word." I hit right back at Albu-Crack-ie by calling it THAT. Living in Grants, you'd fare slightly better in Albu-Crack-ie's job market because they seem to think that Grants is, at least, "commuting distance." Socorro, too.

No it's not the distance. The distance is no sweat in most cars as it's not even as steep a climb uphill as the shorter distance to Santa Fe. No, it's not the distance. People in Albuquerque are just prejudiced against Gallup because Gallup has such a high percentage of Native Americans for a city that size. The same thing that makes me, a Choctaw Indian, LOVE Gallup is precisely what makes most people hate it. The state calls itself not prejudiced and "not racist" but I call BS to that. People will say all kinds of bad things about Gallup and Native Americans in general, right to my face and I have to almost beat them over the heads with the fact that they just called ME all those things to my face and I wonder why they think they should just be able to get away with it - then I remember my law degree and teaching licenses and decide I don't need to get an ASSAULT record over miserable racist thugs.

So in short, I don't know what to tell you. If you have to deal with Albuquerque or the rest of the state, try not to tell them you live in Gallup? Get a PO Box in Grants and use that as your address??

long haul trucking for a year then get a local job. I think Knight trains in your area. Prime inc is also good.
