She doesn't want to live in Luna County, she wants to live in Placitas, and her fear is about snakes, not crime. You sound like you have some serious problems.

Been in Placitas 4 years and have only seen and killed one rattler. It was not in the house but about 75' out in the lot to our east.

Many coyotes around because you hear them howling all the time but they avoid humans (hey, me too). Bobcats are way less common than the coyotes.

What part of Pkacitas were you looking in? The info I've provided is based on our home, right off the main hwy and well west of town center, fyi.

FYI for others:

Please don't kill a rattlesnake on sight unless it has bitten you or your pets (so that you can bring it in for identification). Rattle snakes are extremely beneficial to our local environment's food chain. Killing anything out of fear is just arrogant and irresponsible.

There are groups that will relocate a rattle snake for you in our area, though I forget the contact info at this time.

I lived in Placitas for a year and a half and never saw a snake. I did see/hear coyotes, as well as the lovely Placitas wild horses, kangaroo rats and pack rats, jackrabbits, and had a bobcat walk 2' away from me outside of my office window. We did see the bobcat one other time and would find it's footprints in the snow around the outside of the house.

Thoroughly enjoyed my 11-year Placitas experience that included many visits from Bobby the bobcat. Even made a slideshow.

Bobby looks to be a beautiful bobcat. Great that you could get all that video of him (or should it be her?) like that.

Bobby turned out to be a Bobbie. In my mind, however, she'll always be Bobby. All pics were taken from inside the house. Only saw her once --in the front courtyard-- while outside.
